Deninu Kue

Deninu K’ue means “moose island” and is a settlement corporation at Fort Resolution, southwest of the Slave River Delta on the south shore of Great Slave Lake. The community has a population of 878 people.  DKFN members are traditional and actively fish, hunt, and trap throughout the year.

Chief Louis Balsillie was originally elected in 2007 and has been chief for 11 years.  Chief Balsillie is a strong advocate for his members and would like to see his members take advantage of economic opportunities within his community.  An important part of his leadership direction has been portion of youth employment and training opportunities.  Chief Balsillie is passionate about maintaining the communities culture and language and has done so through the creation of the Mission Island cultural area which hosts numerous family activities and healing workshops throughout the year.
